Felt TK4130 Retro Track Fixed Gear Bike - Save £350

Wiggle | Felt TK4130 Track Bike 2011 Track Bikes

I’ve really had to deliberate over the inclusion of the Felt TK4130 on the bike sale blog. It’s not that the half-price deal doesn’t represent an absolute bargain, or that the Felt TK4130 isn’t a beautiful and appealing bike made by a great company to exacting standards.  It’s just that you have to be…  well… and absolute nutter to ride it.  No freewheel so you’re riding fixed unless you buy a freewheel and, take it from me, riding fixed is good fun but bloody hard work.  If you are going to ride fixed on the streets you’ll probably find the 15 tooth rear wheel is pretty hard work unless you live in Holland.  Perfect for the track though…. except this is a retro steel bike and, although weighing in at under 10 kilo’s, I can’t see Victoria Pembleton riding one.

Yes – nearly forgot to mention it – the Felt K4130 has no brakes!  Not really a problem unless you’re one of these strangely sane people who occasionally wants to slow down or stop.  As the TK4130 is a fixed gear you can, of course, lock the back wheel by stopping pedaling but this does take a little practice (and fairly strong legs). Practicing playing the guitar can lead to a few bum notes and sore fingers while you get the hang of it. Practicing stopping a bike can be a little more scary.  You should probably find a car park.

Who will want the Felt TK4130 then?  Well, I want one and I can’t be the only one.  It’s beautiful and cool and totally impractical, as all the best things in life are.

How Much?

£350 – reduced from £700 – you could hang it on your wall and it would make a great value work of art.

What Sizes?

Available in all sizes – maybe Felt overestimated the number of nutters.

You won’t want this bike if…

You’ve got no experience of fixed gear bikes, or if you need to commute 25 miles a day in a hilly area, or if you’ve basically got any sense.

You will want this bike if…

You believe that beauty is more important than practicality and you’re a bit daft… in a good way.

Eddy Merckx EMX 1 Veloce - Save £700

Getting hold of any carbon fibre road bike with for under £1500 is difficult.  The Eddy Merckx EMX 1 isn’t just any carbon fibre road bike – it’s a legendary road bike!  The frame is an advanced composite design with 24HM Fibre and it also has an oversized head tube and oversized bottom bracket. It weighs only around 8.2 kilos and is both fast and comfortable.

The Bike Sale Blog Newsletter

This shop-soiled Moser 111 carbon fiber road bike is an absolute bike sale bargain.  To pick up a full carbon fiber road bike for under £1500 is a real challenge so to get a limited edition Moser 111 for just £750 is a once in an offer that can’t be ignored.  Yes it has a small paint chip n it which has been repaired, but that’s where the compromises end. Shimano 105 drivetrain, Italian heritage, wonderful paint job – it’s just too good to be true. I wasn’t in the market for a carbon fiber bike until I saw this Moser. Now I’m already trying to decide which of my other bikes is going to have to make way!

Charge Duster 2011 Mid Bike Sale – Save £480

charge-duster-mid-2011-mountain-bike

Charge Duster 2011 Mid Bike Sale - Save £480

Wow! Posted this back in January when Evans cycles had a couple of these but they sold out quickly, but now they’re back!  A guy in our office bought on the first time around and it’s and incredibly light and attractive (if rather brightly coloured) steel mountain bike.  It was a bargain before at £799 but now Wiggle are offering it at £719.  They must be mad.  This was my assessment 1st time around and I love the bike even more having seen one in the flesh. The extra £80 off the January price makes the Charge Duster mid 2011 even more appealing.

Got to go to work now so will write some more on this later, but such a good sale price on this beautiful Charge Duster 2011 that I had to post it immediately!  The Charge Duster is a wonderful steel mountain bike at an unbelievable price.

OK – I’ve got a bit more time now to talk about the Charge Duster.  Charge are a British company who have recently been producing some fantastic steel bikes.  Probably their most famous is the Charge Plug which is a single speed road bike, but they’ve also been producing mountain bikes and urban bikes. A workmate of mine has a Charge Juicer which is a beautiful steel framed road bike with a lovely black steel frame.

Now why would you want a steel framed mountain bike when everyone has alluminium or carbon fibre?  You may have noticed that the Charge Duster isn’t the first steel framed mountain bike I’ve championed on Bike Sale Blog as I’ve also fallen in love with the Commencal Ramones Crmo steel bike. Am I just an old fashioned romantic? Well yes and no. When I look at the skinny steel tubing on the frame of the Charge Duster it certainly pleases my heart more than any alloy or carbon fiber frame, but there are practical reasons that steel please the head as well as the heart- it also please the bottom and the wrists!  Steel frames are more compliant than alloy and will offer a greater amount of comfort on lengthy rides than alluminium.  They also have a wonderful spring to them that makes them feel alive. If you’ve saved up you hard earned cash for carbon fiber, but are planning on doing some hard riding, you should consider that steel is less brittle and easier to repair than carbon fiber in the event of you taking a tumble.  The Charge Duster will please the eye and the heart.

Check out the views of someone says it’s the best bike they’ve ever owned:

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=155641

And then pick one up form Wiggle at the stupid price of £719:

Specialized Langster 2011 Bike Sale – Save £150

Specialized Langster 2011 Bike Sale - Save £150

Specialized Langster 2011 Bike Sale - Save £150

I’ve got a Specialized Langster (the 2008 model) and it’s been a fantastic bike.  I’ve used the Specialized Langster for year-round commuting, the coast-to-coast trip, a 100 mile daily ride from Lancaster to York and a hill climb.  I won’t say it’s always been the perfect bike in all of these circumstances but it’s always fantastic fun! The Specialized Langster is a single speed or fixed bike on a lightweight alluminium road frame and is surely one of the lightest bikes this side of £1000. The lightness of the Specialized Langster makes it a perfect introduction to single speed cycling as you’ll fly up hills you’d otherwise crawl up – even without the luxury of gears.  I currently use my Langster to commute in the summer and a Ridgeback Voyage to do the same trip in the winter.  The Specialized Langster is 10 % faster that the 24 gear touring bike and 10 times more enjoyable. I got mine in a sale for about £350 and it’s definitely the best bike bargain I’ve ever owned.  The Specialized Langster is available in both steel and alluminium frame guises and both have 30 % off at the moment. Can’t believe that this 2011 model is being discounted so heavily and is available in most sized (steel version only available in large frame). This is a pretty special bike sale:

Specialized Langster 2011 Road Bike 30% DISCOUNT !!!! – £349.3

How Much?

£349.30 – reduced from £499 – that’s a 30% saving on an already very reasonably priced bike.

PK Ripper Fixed 2010 Special Edition Bike Sale – Save £400

PK Ripper Fixed 2010 Special Edition Bike Sale - Save £400

PK Ripper Fixed 2010 Special Edition Bike Sale - Save £400

I first saw an advert for the PK Ripper Fixed in ‘Bicycle Buyer’ back in the summer of 2010.  It looked fantastic, and one of the most exciting fixed gear bike I  had seen.  A special edition in orange with just 1500 units worldwide, the PK Ripper Fixed was a dream fixed gear bike but with price tag to match. A fixed gear bike at under 10 kilos, the PK Ripper Fixed will provide you with everything from a striking, low maintenance commuter, winter trainer, right through to a stunt riders street machine. A fixed gear allows you to cycle backwards, stop without using your brakes and generally cycle in a manner you wouldn’t have dreamed was possible.  The lack of gears is also a great way to train and condition your legs, and is surprisingly easy to get to get the hang of and get yourself up even the steepest hills.  I cycled the coast-to-coast on a fixed gear bike without ever pushing (but with quite a bit of stopping and weaving!) so trust me on this.  This 2010 PK Ripper Fixed represents a fantastic bike sale moment!

You like and understated bike that will help you to remain inconspicuous.  You also enjoy the luxury of being able to change gear when the going gets tough.

You appreciate (or are keen to appreciate) the zen like wonders of fixed gear cycling.  The lure of a beautifully made special edition bike with wonderful components is too good to resist. And you quite like the colour orange.

Scott Sub 10 Solution 2011 Bike Sale - Save £350

Scott Sub 10 Solution 2011 Bike Sale - Save £350

Wow! Could the Scott Sub 10 Solution be the perfect winter and wet weather commuter bike?  It has the wonderful Shimano Alfine 8 speed hub gear which means no messy derailleurs to keep clean.  The alfine hub on the Scott Sub 10 is completely enclosed and maintenance free.  If that isn’t enough it also means you can change gear when you’re stopped at traffic lights so no need to desperately crash down the gears when a light changes to red on you.

You also get disc breaks and eyelets for fitting mudguards and yet the weight is under 12 Kilos (which is 2.5 Kilos less than my touring bike).  The light weight combines with the 700 wheels make the Scott Sub a fast commuter as well as practical. Can’t argue with the striking looks either!

Review of the Scott Sub 10 have been excellent – just check out this review on Bikes.org:

Or these user reviews on Evans Cycles:

Specialized Tricross 2011 Bike Sale – Save £262

Specialized Tricross 2011 - Save £262 - Was £749.99 - Now £487.49

Specialized Tricross 2011 - Save £262 - Was £749.99 - Now £487.49

Please Note – since posting the price of the Specialized Tricross has risen to £549.97.  This is still a very good price but not quite the outstanding price of £487.49.

The Specialized Tricross is a great winter road bike for under £500. It’s basically a fast road bike with a slightly more relaxed geometry and zertz inserts for a more comfortable and compliant ride.  This make the Specialized Tricross an incredibly versatile cycle. It could happily be classified within road bikes, cross bikes, or hybrid bikes and would shine in whichever category. I usually look for bike sales for cycles in the £1000 + category but this Specialized Tricross seems such a bargain I just had to include it.  There are very little quality road bikes for under £500 and the Tricross is that and so much more. A really great winter ride that you’ll definitely want to clean up for the summer!

Specialized Tricross 2011 road bike 35% DISCOUNT!!| – £487.49

How Much?

£487.49 – reduced from £749.99 and I defy anyone to find it cheaper!

What Sizes?

Available in the 2 most popular sizes – 54cm and 56cm which should suit anyone between 5’6″ and 6′.

Where from?

Currently available at this remarkable price from:

www.cyclestore.co.uk

Why wouldn’t I want it?

Maybe you want an out-and-out road bike and you’ll sacrifice a world of comfort for that extra ounce of pace or maybe you’re in a Brewster like conundrum and it just isn’t expensive enough..

Why would I want it?

You know the value of comfort in maintaining your real pace and know that a quality big brand road bike for under £500 is as rare as taxi driver stopping outside a cycle lane.

2011 CUBE SL Cross Team Bike Sale – Save £300

2011 CUBE SL Cross - Save £300 - Was £929 - Now £629

2011 CUBE SL Cross Team - Save £300 - Was £929 - Now £629

Now – even with a £300 saving the Cube SL Cross Team is still fairly pricey for a hybrid bike but, when you start looking at the specs you soon see why. It’s fantastically equipped with full Shimano Deore gearing and shifters and Shimano 105 hubs, but the real eye-opener is the weight! At less than 10 kilo’s the Cube SL Cross Team is one of the lightest hybrid / commuter / cross bikes you can buy. To put it in perspective, it’s almost 50% lighter than my winter commuter bike which is a Ridgeback Voyage touring bike and the Cube looks even more capable of handling rough roads and light trails. It’s also one of the few cross bike with flat-bars for those who prefer them the drops but still want a ride with that road-bike performance.
Cube SL Cross Team – 2011 – Mens Hybrid | Hargroves Cycles
How much?

£629 – reduced from £929

Almost 30% discount on this classy cross bike.  I can’t find it for this price anywhere else.

What sizes?

Incredibly, all sizes are still available at the time of writing.

Why wouldn’t I want it?

Maybe you’re lucky enough to live where the roads are beautifully maintained, but for those of us who don’t live in Switzerland…
Why would I want it?

You want a fast, classy commuter or ‘do anything except a mountain’ bike from strong German brand with fantastic kit and a great look.  Also you might fancy some touring or long distance rides and need the comfort of a touring bike but with some extra the extra speed of a lightweight road bike.

Any reviews?

Not much in the way of reviews for this specific bike but Cube cycles are German engineered and know for the quality of their cycles (finish, weight etc.)

There’s a blog entry here from a Russian guy who did a lot of research and ended up buying the Cube SL Cross Race and seems delighted with it:
